Welcome to matrix.xera.ca, an independently hosted Matrix homeserver. By using this service, you agree to abide by the following Terms of Service. If you do not agree, you must discontinue use of this service immediately.

1. Free Speech and Legal Compliance

We support your right to free speech. However, use of this service must comply with applicable Canadian and United States laws. Illegal content or behavior is not tolerated under any circumstances.

Prohibited content includes, but is not limited to:

• Child sexual abuse material (CSAM)
• Terrorist content or violent extremist materials
• Content that promotes hate or incites violence (as defined by law)
• Copyright-infringing files
• Harassment, doxxing, or threats against individuals or groups
• Fraudulent schemes, scams, or impersonation

2. Prohibited Conduct

• Spamming or mass unsolicited communications
• Uploading or distributing malicious software (malware, RATs, viruses, etc.)
• Attempting to bypass security controls or gain unauthorized access
• Running disruptive bots or automation tools without admin consent

3. Account Termination

Violations may result in account suspension or permanent termination. We reserve the right to report illegal activity to authorities in Canada and/or the United States.

4. No Warranties

matrix.xera.ca is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind. We are not responsible for data loss, service outages, or content shared by other users.

Privacy Policy

We respect your privacy and do our best to keep your data safe. This privacy policy explains what information is collected and how it is used.

1. Data Collected

• Basic account data (username, Matrix ID)
• Messages and media you send (stored if using this homeserver)
• IP addresses and device identifiers (for login and moderation)

2. How We Use Your Data

• To provide core Matrix functionality
• To detect abuse and secure the service
• To comply with legal obligations in Canada and the U.S.

3. Third-Party Access

We do not share your personal data with third parties except when required by law or to address abuse reports or security threats.

4. Data Retention

We retain data as long as your account is active. Some logs (e.g., access logs) may be retained for security and legal purposes.

5. Your Rights

You may request account deletion by contacting [email protected]. Once deleted, your data will be purged from our systems, except where required to be retained by law.

Acceptable Use Policy

All users of matrix.xera.ca must agree to the following acceptable use standards:

1. Do Not:

• Use the server to share, store, or transmit illegal content
• Engage in harassment, hate speech, or threats
• Upload or share malicious software or exploits
• Attempt to disrupt or overload the server or Matrix federation
• Use automation or bots without explicit permission from administrators

2. You May:

• Express your views freely, as long as they comply with U.S. and Canadian law
• Host and participate in Matrix rooms for discussion, collaboration, or community-building
• Report abuse or security concerns to the administrators

Violations of this AUP may lead to access being restricted or denied, with or without notice. We reserve the right to take action to protect users and the integrity of the network.
